When did your health journey begin?

My journey started in January 2014 after becoming unwell from a tick bite – I received a number of bacterial infections which caused a rapid decline in my health. The main infection called Lyme’s Disease is very difficult to obtain accurate testing and treatment within Australia..

“Watching my own health deteriorate pushed me to seek answers and find solutions to regain my quality of life”

What prompted you to become empowered in your health?

Watching my own health deteriorate pushed me to seek answers and find solutions to regain my quality of life. I wasn’t leaving any stone unturned going to the extent of sending blood to overseas testing laboratories to figure out what was wrong. Having resources such as the internet available helped this process immensely.

Has this experience changed your perspective of life?

Well and truly – You appreciate the simple things in life and learn not to take anything for granted. After being bed ridden for almost 12 months it’s great to slowly have some independence back and start enjoy life once again.

What advice would you give to others who may be battling to get answers and unsure what to do?

Best advice I can offer is: You know your own body better than anyone else. Trust your instinct and don’t settle for quick fixes if you are having serious ongoing health issues. Research as much as possible to gain a better understanding about what your body is trying to tell you.
