McGrath Breast Care Nurses help individuals (and their families) experiencing breast cancer by providing physical, psychological and emotional support. From the time of diagnosis, and throughout treatment, this support is available for free, whether you’re in the private or public health system, and is available from day one of your diagnosis.
Since 2005, more than 54,000 families have been supported by McGrath Breast Care Nurses. Every breast cancer experience is different so McGrath Breast Care Nurses work with their patients and families to provide support that’s tailored for the individual’s needs. Around 2,000 hours are spent each month providing face to face support. And last year around 42,000 phone calls were made to support patients and their families.
McGrath Breast Care Nurses are in communities right across Australia. While the majority are in rural and regional areas, population trends mean there’s a growing need in our cities as well. Right now, an additional 79 McGrath Breast Care Nurses are needed to ensure that every family experiencing breast cancer has access to this specialist support. This number will keep growing as more people are diagnosed.
