Our community of FNQ experiences high levels of suicide comparable only to the Northern Territories.

As such we need to work extra hard to raise awareness and learn how to recognise people in trouble, and know what to do to prevent suicide. We need to ‘Connect and Spread the Message of Suicide Prevention’.

The Dr Edward Koch Foundation is a non-profit organisation, supporting public health activities, in particular suicide prevention in North Queensland.

In June 1995 the FNQ Taskforce for the Prevention of Youth Suicide was formed in response to the alarming rates of youth suicide in the region. The work of the Taskforce has continued and expanded with many initiatives developed for the community. The Taskforce’s goals are to implement, support and promote strategies which aim at the reduction of suicide and self-harm.
